| Introduction |
Ellerslie School is a full
primary school which was established in 1877 as the first school
in the district. Over the years the local area has changed,
and is continuing to change, such that the school is now surrounded
by commercial enterprises rather than family dwellings. The
school roll has steadily increased from 100 pupils in the early
1990s to its current size of about 440. As the roll has increased
so has the diversity of ethnic groups attending the school.
Although there are pupils from about 30 different ethnic groups
at school the major groups are NZ European (50%), Pacific island
(12%), NZ Maori (8%), Chinese (12%) and Indian (5%).Our pupils
wear uniform and have developed a reputation for co-operation
and excellent behaviour both in school and out on visits. We
are a well resourced school with 19 classrooms, an extensive
Library, a hall, a swimming pool and excellent playground space. |
